Acadia is bordered by major roads and markers in the Southeast quadrant of Calgary, this includes Macleod Trail on the west, the Bow River in the east, Heritage Drive on the north and the South by Southland drive. The land was officially annexed in 1956 to the city of Calgary and the community was established in 1960. This community has a great ‘walkscore’ plenty of businesses and schools nearby including Lord Beaverbrook High school the largest in the city.
A large mix of residential, commercial, and recreational space, buyers looking for real estate in Acadia can be assured that they’ve got great access to major roadways in the city with Macleod trail, Deerfoot Trail, and Blackfoot all close by.
Acadia community membership is optional. A valid membership is usually required to participate in recreational, social and educational programs from soccer to girl guides, karate to yoga, stampede breakfasts to senior programs, movie nights and much more! Several Calgary recreation centres will also provide a discount for community association membership holders.
The Acadia Community Complex has rooms available for rent to community members and the public. Parents that are interested in homes for sale in the Acadia community have plenty of options for their children. For elementary students in the public system they can attend David Thompson or Sam Livingston while Catholic students may attend Ecole St. Matthew and St. Cecelia. Catholic Junior high students may attend Ecole St. Matthews and public junior high students can attend Fairview both of which offer french immersion programs. As previously mentioned, public high school includes Lord Beaverbrook and Dr. E.P. Scarlett while Catholic students in high school can attend Bishop Grandin.
As of the 2012 census, Acadia carried a population of 10,705 with 5,053 dwellings. The median household income in this community was $46,089 in 2000 with 19.2% being low income, a total of 19.4% of the population were immigrants. 38.8% of the buildings in Acadia are Condominiums or apartments with a rental rate of 38.9%
